Beans on Toast

The British teatime standby: a tin of baked beans simmered until glossy and piled onto hot buttered toast, with a grating of sharp cheddar if you like.

Beans on Toast

Method

  1. Tip 200 g of baked beans into a small saucepan, scraping in all the sauce, and add 0.25 tsp of Worcestershire sauce.
  2. Set the pan over medium-low heat and warm the beans for 4-5 minutes, stirring gently with a wooden spoon every so often so they do not catch on the base. They are ready when the sauce is glossy, just bubbling at the edges and thick enough to sit on a spoon rather than run off it.
  3. While the beans heat, toast 2 slices of thick white bread until evenly golden and crisp at the edges but still soft in the middle.
